PAC By-law 1 states

“Life membership may be granted to a Member at a General Meeting providing the Member has rendered outstanding service over a number of years to the Club. For further detail, refer to the club web site.”

The Board noted that there is no need to change the By-law but there was a need to outline a process that could be used by the current and future Boards. Prior to formalising the process for the granting of a Life Membership the Board consulted with existing Life Members at the time.

At the General Meeting of Members in March 2011 the following guidance process was presented to Members of the PAC. This process is recommended to be used by future nominees and Boards in the awarding of Life Membership status.

Process guidelines for Nominations of Life Membership to the PAC

(i) any member can nominate any other member;
(ii) all nominations should include a comprehensive citation;
(iii) if appropriate, the board would offer assistance with the process;
(iv) if the board felt there was some weakness in a nomination, it would advise the proposer accordingly;
(v) it is the proposer’s choice to proceed or not proceed with a nomination;
(vi) the proposer is responsible for informing the nominee and to establish before proceeding further, that they would accept Life Membership should it be offered;
(vii) resolutions (nominations) properly received will be included on the agenda of the next general meeting;
(viii) the proposer has the onus of making the nomination, presenting it to the members and securing the vote at the general meeting;
(ix) Life Members unanimously recommend that a nominee for Life Membership should have been a club member for at least 15 years, and have rendered the outstanding service for which they have been nominated over a period of at least 5 years.

Further information relating to life membership can be found in Rule 18, Rule 57 of the PAC Rules.
