Information about Pittwater Sailors
Pittwater Sailors is the sailing section of Pittwater Aquatic Club (PAC) and is the most active group of
PAC. We conduct a series of 11 races a year on the first Sunday of the month except when this clashes
with special Days when the race is conducted on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Our courses are all within
Pittwater with the start and finish in the vicinity of Taylors Point. Race starts are from 12.00Noon or
1.00PM daylight saving time.
We conduct “pursuit” races with two fleets sailing different length courses, so the span of boat start times
are reasonable. Each boat starts on her allocated handicap start time. The goal is to pass as many boats as
possible and not be overtaken. In theory all boats finish at the same time. This leads to some exciting
finishes. A yachts place in the race is her finish place across the line. Start handicaps are adjusted after
each race.
We are financially separate from PAC. The yearly membership fees ($55.00) and ($88.00 for Non-PAC
Member) the funds are used for equipment and costs associated with conducting races and providing
trophies.
Application details, Race Dates and Courses, Results and Handicaps etc are found under the Sailors Tab
on the PAC webpage.
AFTER RACE DINNER
After each race a barbecue is held at the PAC club. Charging $20.00 per adult and $5.00 for children
funds the barbecue along with a raffle (10tickets for $5.00) for bottles of wine which covers the cost of
bottles for the first three place getters in each division. There is no charge for preschool children or more
than 2 children. Steaks, sausages and onions with salads are alternated with chicken and salads. Beer,
cask wine, fruit juice, soft drinks, nibbles, tea and coffee are also supplied and are included in the above
charge.
We have in place Covid safety measures which include, extra ventilation, individually packaged nibbles,
hand sanitisers, table separation and individual tongs for self-serving from the smorgasbord table etc. In
addition to observing current health regulations regarding RAT testing/self-isolation etc. people are
requested not to attend even if they believe they “just have a cold”.
The barbecue is open to PAC Members and guests and Non-PAC Members, crew and friends. Attendees
MUST pre-book unless they have elected to be permanently booked when joining the race series by
emailing or texting the Catering Manager, by Wednesday evening prior to the race.
Overall organising of the dinners is done by the Catering Manager. The meal preparation and subsequent
clean-up depends solely on volunteers.
